HindustanBills vs TallyPrime
If you are choosing between us and TallyPrime
India's standard accounting system: a perpetual-licence Windows product covering books, statutory reporting, payroll and audit, with an annual subscription for updates and support. We do one trade — clothing, saree and footwear shops — and nothing else. Below is what each of us is actually better at, with their prices quoted from their own site and the date we read it.
Straight answer
What TallyPrime does better
Read this part first. If any of it is what you need, stop here and buy theirs.
- It is the accounting system and we are not. A statutory balance sheet, ledgers, payroll, cost centres, audit trails for a CA's purposes — if you need those, Tally is the right tool and you should use it.
- Every chartered accountant in India already knows it. That is worth more than any feature list, and it is why your CA asks for it by name.
- A perpetual licence. You pay once and own that version, where we stop working if you stop paying.
- Depth built over three decades, across every industry, not one.
Choose TallyPrime if you need a statutory balance sheet, payroll, or anything your CA will audit line by line. We export Tally-compatible XML precisely so you can run both without retyping.
The other side
Where we are the better fit
All of it follows from doing one trade rather than every trade.
- It runs at the counter, on the phone in your pocket, with no installation and no particular PC. Tally runs on a Windows machine, and if that machine dies your books are on it.
- The garment GST rate settled per line after the discount. Tally's own garment page says a discount that moves a piece across the ₹2,500 line is an override you make by hand.
- An udhaar khata a counter person can use without being taught double-entry.
- ₹2,999 a year against ₹22,500 up front plus ₹4,500 a year — which matters at the size of shop we are built for.

The differences that change the decision
| TallyPrime | HindustanBills | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | An accounting system | A counter and a stock ledger that files GST |
| Runs on | A Windows PC | Any browser — phone, tablet, laptop |
| Licence | Perpetual, plus yearly TSS for updates | Yearly subscription, stops when you stop |
| Statutory balance sheet, payroll | Yes | No, and deliberately never |
| Size and colour stock | Each size and colour its own stock item, grouped by design | Each its own product, added as a grid per style |
| GST 5%/18% when a discount moves the slab | Override the rate by hand | Worked out per line, automatically |
| Your CA already knows it | Yes | No — so we export to a file Tally imports |
